Dr. Nandita Nayer is a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist with close to 20 years of experience.
This book was born out of many years of listening to children, hearing their worries, their questions, and their hopes. Over time, it became clear that there was a gap: the tools we had weren’t enough, and the changes we hoped for were not lasting or truly meaningful. Emotional literacy is a legacy passed down through families, yet many adults never had the chance to learn these skills themselves. Without them, how could they pass them on to their children, even with all the love and intention in the world?
My Big Book of Emotions was created to help fill that gap. It aims to build emotional literacy, somatic awareness, and perspective-taking, while also offering toolkits that children can personalise and make their own. Most importantly, it encourages children to grow empathy and respect, not only towards others, but even more importantly, towards themselves.
It reminds us that all emotions are welcome. Every feeling has a place. What matters is how we choose to respond. Being vulnerable is not weakness, it is a superpower. By learning to notice, name, and nurture their feelings, children (and families) can grow in confidence, compassion, and connection.
This book is not just a story; it is a resource. A tool to help raise emotionally intelligent children and families, ones who can listen deeply to themselves, their bodies, and to each other.
